I am going to give you 5 ways to overcome your fear of starting a business. You have always wanted to work for yourself and the time is right. You have a great idea and money in the bank. You have been thinking about this for several years, you have spoken to lots of friends. So what’s holding you back? Sounds to me like it’s you. So let’s look at the first of my 5 ways to overcome your fear of starting a business.
Don’t overthink it
I call it paralyses by analyses, you overthink everything until you are paralysed by fear. You have spent months researching your idea on the internet, every time you look someone else is doing it. Remember that many successful businesses do not have a unique idea, but what they often have is a unique way of marketing, selling, packaging or delivering their service. Think about what will make your business unique or different and what will make it stand out in a busy and crowded market place. Don’t overthink it is the first of 5 ways to overcome your fear of starting a business.
Don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today. There will always be other things to do and you can always make them a higher priority. I guess it depends upon how much you want this business? What will you do to get it? Starting a business can seem complex but it doesn’t have to be? We all know the saying ‘how do you eat an elephant’? You know the answer too ‘one bite at a time’. That’s how you need to think about staring a business, one step at a time. Many people choose to stay in a full-time job while they establish their business. That’s fine, it just means it will take you a little longer to get there, but providing you have a plan and stick to it, you will get there. Don’t procrastinate is the second of 5 ways to overcome your fear of starting a business.
Write down your ideas, number 3 0f 5 ways to overcome your fear of starting a business
Write down your ideas and formulate your objectives. Having ideas floating around in your head is great but its difficult to see the full picture. If you prefer pictures to words then draw a diagram of your business idea. What problem are you solving and who will be your target market. How will you market, sell and deliver your service? Draw out your thought or write them down. Ultimately you will need a business plan and financial analysis to see if your business proposition is viable but getting something down on paper is always a good start point. It doesn’t have to be paper it could be a PowerPoint presentation, but whatever it is that you create it should be sufficient for you to describe your concept and the need to end process of how you will deliver it. Writing down your ideas will help you crystallise your thinking and is the third of 5 ways to overcome your fear of starting a business.
Visualise your success
That’s right picture yourself being successful. Imagine what your business will look like, what your customers will say about your business and most of all how you will feel when you have built your business. It is so important that you believe in yourself and are motivated to achieve your dream. Think about it if you are an Olympic athlete then there would be no point entering if you never thought you could win, or, improve your personal best. There are lots of obstacles to overcome when starting a business and you will need to be resilient to deal with the tough times ahead, but self belief will give you the motivation to get started, and to carry on. You are not responsible for anyone else, just yourself. So the fourth way of 5 ways to overcome your fear of starting a business is visualise your success. Go on start right now.
Take action. Number 5 of 5 ways to overcome your fear of starting a business

Don’t know how to do something that’s fine, seek advice, buy in help or do whatever you have to do. Creating a successful business is not easy but it can be very rewarding.
